It doubled, in about a year, the number of books from Coimbra University Press (IUC) indexed in the DOAB - Directory of Open Access Books. The number of publications indexed in the international Open Access Directory, which in 2019 was 251, recently reached the mark of 576, placing the institution in the top 3% internationally.

With the achievement, IUC is now listed in the 11th. position among 381 publishers with publications on the platform. The indexing process means more impact and quality in open access publications: "It is not enough to put content in open access; it is important to add value to it", says Vice-Rector Delfim Leão, Director of IUC.

As the Director of the Press explains, the indexing attributed by independent bodies recognizes the quality of the publishing processes, which includes the arbitration and curation of the editorial process, applying scientific filters to include works in its repository. The indexing of works with open access on these platforms still contributes to the good practices of Open Science.

In addition to the new positioning with the DOAB, IUC has also reinforced its position in the Iberoamerican Network of Innovation and Scientific Knowledge (REDIB - Libros) in the last few days. The UC Press has been part of the Network for about a year as a founding member, and now receives the news that the same 576 books available at DOAB have also been accepted by the REDIB index, which focuses on the productions of Iberian countries and Latin American countries. The new books are in the process of being loaded, in addition to the 251 works already referenced on the Network previously.
