Citizen Science at the UC is the theme of the first edition of iiiUC Trainings in 2024
The meeting will be online, in Portuguese and open to the entire UC community
The first session of 2024 of the iiiUC Training Sessions: Research Support Tools is dedicated to the topic of Citizen Science at UC: Co-creation Activity. Citizen science is increasingly being used as a tool to deal with social, environmental and territorial issues. At the University of Coimbra, there are various projects and initiatives in different areas of knowledge to be presented to the community.
The Citizen Science at/with the University of Coimbra (CC@UC) hub aims to foster collaboration and join forces between multidisciplinary groups at the University of Coimbra (UC) and other stakeholders (e.g. society in general, NGOs, business professionals, industry and the public sector) to share resources, experiences and knowledge in the area of citizen science.
The main objectives of this session are:
1) understand the concept of citizen science, its development in Portugal and present some of the citizen science projects developed at/with the UC.
2) discuss and co-develop a detailed plan for the CC@UC hub, including a description of the mission, objectives and future activities involving the UC community.
Issues such as the following will be discussed in small groups (in simultaneous rooms):
- What is the importance of creating hubs for CC projects?
- How can a local HUB be implemented (operationalised)?
- What benefits are expected from the creation of a HUB? What advantages and opportunities does this HUB bring to CC projects and those involved?
The session will be led by:

- Filipa Bessa, Centre for Functional Ecology
and will also be accompanied by Maria Vicente, Founder of the CC.pt Network.
