The General Library of the University of Coimbra (BGUC) now has a Conservation and restoration workshop. The treasure kept in the form of books needs constant monitoring and protection.

Delfim Leão, UC vice-rector for culture and open science, admits that he is passionate about digital technologies, but recognises that "the work that has been done to ensure that a workshop like this, dedicated to the restoration of antique work, may exist, is absolutely essential and is strongly valued".

The vice-rector adds that "if memory is not preserved, we cannot delve into what happened before nor effectively prepare the future".

"This is a very fortunate week for the General Library of the University of Coimbra", says João Gouveia Monteiro, BGUC's Director.
