07 june, 2023≈ 3 min read

From 1-30 June, COAR (Confederation of Open Access Repositories) is seeking inputs on 16 draft recommendations for managing non-English and multilingual content in repositories. The recommendations have been developed by a COAR Task Force with the aim of providing good practice advice on the deposit, management and curation of multilingual and non-English content in repositories.

The recommendations define good practices for metadata, multilingual keywords, user interfaces, translations, formats, licenses, and indexing that will improve the visibility and discovery of repository content in a variety of languages along with implementation guidance for the repository community.

Feedback is welcomed in the following areas:

  • How clear are the recommendations?
  • How easy/difficult are they to implement (and why)?
  • What is missing?

More information and instructions for participation can be found at this link.

The COAR Task Force to Support Multilingualism and Non-English Content in Repositories was launched in August 2022, to develop and promote good practice for repositories in managing multilingual and non-English content. The group is focused on identifying good practices for metadata, multilingual keywords, user interfaces, translations, formats, licensing and indexing that will improve the visibility of non-English and multilingual content around the world.
