Between November 27 and December 4, the International FAIR Convergence Symposium brings together a global community in a unique forum for advancing international and cross-domain convergence around FAIR principles. The event, organized by CODATA and GOFAIR, will be entirely virtual, with free registration, and will feature more than 50 parallel sessions.

The sessions will be divided into five thematic strands: FAIR for crisis reduction and response; FAIR specifications; FAIR society; FAIR data stewardship; and major developments in FAIR convergence.

Those who are interested can register for the event and choose among the sessions, and also will be able to access previously recorded talks on each topic. UC Open Science highlights the workshop that takes place on December 3rd, "Prospecting a FAIR continuum for SSH data and publications". The workshop will address the activities of the CO-OPERAS IN and TRIPLE projects, of which the UC is a member. The University has an active participation in the TRIPLE project, which is developing a discovery platform that proposes a multilingual and multicultural solution for the appropriation of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) resources.

The above mentioned workshop will combine information sharing and collective activities with the participants. The central topic will be presented through the actions of CO-OPERAS and TRIPLE and the first part of the session will make a collective discussion of the main aspects of a FAIR ecosystem in Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), considering the example of OPERAS as a case study. The audience will then be divided into sub-groups to work on diagrams representing the ecosystem, using online tools. Each representation will be presented to the entire audience and stored for future analysis.

The second part of the session will involve participants in a survey on the standards used within the SSH, through an online spreadsheet. The activity will be a starting point for continuous work that CO-OPERAS will manage in the future with its extended network. The session will last 2 hours.

About FAIR

The FAIR principles are guidelines for data management, published in 2016, to provide principles for improving the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability and Reuse of digital assets. These principles refer to three types of entities: data (or any digital object), metadata (information about digital objects), and infrastructure. Find out more about the FAIR principles in the section dedicated to them on our website and on the GOFAIR page.
