Innovative results in the Humanities are the focus of a new public consultation
Contributions to the E-Humanities Working Group can be made until July 26
ALLEA's E-Humanities Working Group has launched a consultation on initial recommendations about the recognition of digital scholarly outputs in the humanities, open until July 26. The group aims to gather broad feedback from researchers and institutions active in the humanities to adapt the recommendations to their needs.
The recommendations are part of the group's report on the recognition, evaluation and assessment of innovative scholarly outputs in the humanities. First, the report focuses on cross-cutting issues relevant to the digital practices in the humanities, namely: (1) the linking of studies to underlying data, (2) open outputs, (3) collaboration and authorship, (4) training and capacity building, and (5) review and evaluation.
Specific case studies of innovative outcomes where these issues arise are also discussed, such as:
(a) in digital scholarly publishing,
(b) in extended publications,
(c) in databases and datasets, infographics,
(d) in code,
(e) blogs,
(f) podcasts.
The conclusion of the paper provides general observations on the recognition and evaluation of digital practices in the humanities. How to contribute
The consultation is open to all researchers and practitioners working in humanities disciplines, policymakers and representatives of all public and private organisations active in the field. The Group is particularly interested in hearing from humanities researchers from ALLEA member academies. The consultation is open until 26 July 2023.
The Working Group recommends that interested parties suggest changes or leave comments on the document. Comments can be for clarification, address omissions or propose further reading. See more practical details here.

The ALLEA E-Humanities Working Group, composed of experts from across European academies, is committed to identifying and raising awareness of priorities and concerns in the humanities, paying particular attention to current and emerging developments in digital practices.
Currently, the Open Science agenda is prominent in research policy and in the requirements of research funders, and is driving changes in research practices.
To respond to this agenda and facilitate the adoption of Open Science in the humanities, the working group focused on supporting humanities researchers in their research data management practices.
