The iiiUC (Institute of Interdisciplinary Research at the University of Coimbra) will hold, on the 14th of January, another session of the iiiUC Training Courses | Research Support Tools (Formações iiiUC | Ferramentas de Apoio à Investigação). This time, the focus is on the activities carried out by the Coimbra University Press (IUC) in the context of publishing open access scientific journals and its indexing process, which contributes to improving the impact, accessibility and interoperability of journals.

The session will have two parts: the first will address the editorial management platform Open Journal Systems (OJS), whose system is used to manage the 31 scientific journals currently published by IUC, gathered on the Impactum Journals platform. The presentation will be held by Carlos Costa and Mickael Silva, from IUC. Then, the session will address the journals indexing process, a practice that has been expanded and applied as a standard for the University of Coimbra journals - currently, from the 31 journals published by IUC, 22 are indexed in the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) and in a variable extent, indexed on other relevant international platforms, such as Web of Science, Scopus, SJIF, Dialnet, ERIH Plus, Latindex, Redbib and Sherpa/Romeo. This aspect will be presented by the IUC Deputy Director, Maria João Padez, and the IUC Director and Vice-Rector Delfim Leão. The IUC also has around 600 books indexed in the DOAB (Directory of Open Access Books).

The goals of the event on the 14th January are, on the one hand, to raise awareness of editorial management instruments, in particular to agents linked to publishing in science, and, on the other hand, to disseminate among researchers the current perspective of magazine editing and indexing by IUC, as well as the good editorial practices that can enhance their success.
