Worlds and Collections. Methodological and Interpretive Worlds of Musical Collections

The project Worlds and Collections (Mundos e Fundos). Methodological and Interpretive Worlds of Musical Collections is grounded in meticulous multidisciplinary scientific research, closely engaging with primary sources. Its main goal is to transform musical sources into a platform for cultivating critical understanding and fostering appreciation of Portuguese heritage. It focuses on identifying and studying the musical legacy preserved in archives and libraries, along with exploring their social and cultural contexts. Additionally, it aims to train young researchers in the philological and musical analysis of these sources, thereby making them accessible to a wider audience. recognising that its objectives can only be achieved through comprehensive knowledge transfer, the project undertakes various forms of research and promotional activities. In addition to conventional scientific communications and publications, these efforts manifest through the Mundos e Fundos Series, which is edited by the Coimbra University Press. This series offers critical editions, characterised by rigour and plurality, of Latin and vernacular polyphony, instrumental repertoire and treatises spanning the 16th to 18th centuries. Moreover, the project facilitates regular national and international performances by the musical laboratories Cappela Sanctae Crucis, Cupertinos, and O Bando de Surunyo, which are directed, respectively, by the researchers Tiago Simas Freire, Luís Toscano and Hugo Sanches.
