The FAO has declared 2024 the "International Year of Camelids". Therefore, the 9th edition of the Student Forum on Food Heritage, History and Cultures, while open to discussing any topic, places particular emphasis on PASTORALISM.

An activity of historical significance with profound social, economic, and cultural impacts on Mediterranean countries, pastoralism brings together, harmonises, adapts, and dialogues with various actors: humans, animals, and nature, shaping and transforming landscapes and territories. However, in the contemporary world, new challenges have emerged, prompting reflection, study, and the search for new solutions to ensure the sustainability and conservation of PASTORALISM.

A privileged space for presenting research conducted by students at all levels of higher education, both in Portugal and abroad, within the interdisciplinary field of Food Studies, the event welcomes proposals for 15-minute presentations or posters that explore food-related issues through the lens of the Social Sciences and Humanities. The submissions must be theoretically and methodologically grounded in areas such as Cultural Heritage, Literature, History, Anthropology, Sociology, Linguistics, Arts, Archaeology, Communication, Gastronomy, and Tourism.

Participation is open to undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral students.

Proposals will be selected by the directors of the doctoral programmes in Food Heritage: Cultures and Identities and the master's programme in Food: Sources, Culture and Society.

The event will be held in person at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra.
