Seguir-se-á a evolução da doutrina da atenção nas principais obras de Agostinho (A Grandeza da Alma, A Música, A Trindade e as Confissões). Conceder-se-á relevo às dimensões genéticas, lexicais e histórico-filosóficas na tentativa de ensaiar uma hermenêutica coerente daquela que foi decerto a primeira construção sistemática e integral da atenção.

Mário Santiago de Carvalho is a retired Full Professor at FLUC (Faculty of Arts and Humanities), where he taught the "Medieval Philosophy" course throughout his career, and was also the scientific coordinator of the R&D unit "Institute of Philosophical Studies” (IEF). Carvalho is the author of more than 200 articles and books published in Portuguese and international philosophical journals. In his professional activities, he interacted with several collaborators in co-authoring scientific works, and with the following Universities: Porto, Lisbon, Azores, Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Beira Interior, Salamanca, Sorbonne (Paris), Leuven (Belgium), Luxembourg, Macerata (Italy), Sun-Yat Sen (People's Republic of China), University of South Bohemia (Ceské Budejovice, Czech Republic) and Boston College Lynch School of Education and Human Development (USA).
