Don't miss the activity "Pollination and the importance of pollinators" that we are organizing as part of Ciencia Viva no Verão and #ecologyday2023, on September 14, at the UC Exploratório - Centro Ciência Viva da Universidade de Coimbra.
The activity aims to promote knowledge about the importance of the pollination services provided by insects, particularly in the survival of wild plants and the production of food for humans, and to create a first contact with the species of pollinators that exist in our country.
To this end, two children's stories related to the theme of biodiversity, pollination and climate change, "A alga que queria ser flor" (Ana Cristina Tavares) and "A Aventura da Abelha Juju num Pomar de Cactos" (Maria João Horta Parreira), will first be read and told by the authors of both stories.
Secondly, in the space surrounding the UC Exploratório - Centro Ciência Viva da Universidade de Coimbra, participants will be invited to take part in interactive games related to the main groups of pollinators and the importance of pollination in agricultural crops, actively participate in counting plant-pollination interactions using the Fit Count app and learn more about the diversity of plants and their life cycles.
The activity aims to make society aware of the need to assess, conserve and value pollinators and pollination and is part of the objectives of polli.NET - Collaborative Network for the Assessment, Conservation and Valuation of Pollinators and Pollination, of which the proponents of this proposal are also members.
