The Finger-PT team participated in the European Researchers' Night in Coimbra 2526|09|2025 PI Inês Pereira, PhD student Nuno Grácio and project manager Patrícia João attended the European Researchers' Night in Coimbra on the evening of the 26th September. Hundreds of scientists were out in the streets promoting scientific culture. Our activity “Stories in sand grains” allowed to explore different types of sand with variable heavy mineral fractions using a binocular microscope. The activity established the link between this diversity and two fundamental applications in the study of heavy minerals: mineral resource prospecting and sedimentary provenance studies, which help reconstructing source area rocks and their tectonic evolution. Our aim to participate in the European Researchers' Night was to spark interest in geology and demonstrate how small grains can tell great stories about the dynamics of the Earth. |
EsTED2410|10|2024 a 12|10|2024 Inês Pereira (PI of Finger-PT) was invited to take part in EsTED24, which took place in Estremoz. As well as running a practical seminar entitled “LA ICP-mS - Geochronology and trace element geochemistry”, she also invited researcher Clare Warren to take part in the event, with a paper entitled “Making Mountains: the role of metamorphic processes in economic geology”. |

INOVAÇÃO@UC 202306|12|2023 Inês Pereira (PI of Finger-PT) was invited to speak at the INOVAÇÃO@UC event, where she talked about her latest project FINGER-PT, which has received funding from the European Union through an ERC of 2.5 million euros. The INOVAÇÃO@UC event is an annual initiative that aims to put innovation at the heart of the University of Coimbra's activity. |
