Workshop 7

7. Wildlife acoustics special workshop: Using bioacoustics as a valuable seabird research tool: a hands-on workshop with the song meter mini 2

Contact: Alexandra Donargo, ali@wildlifeacoustics.com | Sharon Camm, events2024@wildlifeacoustics.com

Unattended acoustic recorders provide a non-invasive and cost-effective technique to assess species presence within a region. This is especially true for seabird research, where study sites may be difficult to access, and timing and conditions make traditional methods of monitoring challenging. Acoustic recordings can help determine population trends, find unknown colonies, and answer other research questions to support conservation efforts. This hands-on workshop will teach participants the features and configuration options of the Song Meter Mini 2. Time permitting, we will also discuss the free and paid versions of our Kaleidoscope software which allows for efficient analysis of acoustic data.
