The Department of Chemistry (DQ) of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) will host the 9th edition of the International Conference on Bio-based and Biodegradable Polymers (BIOPOL) from 22 to 24 July.

This is the first time the event is being held in Portugal, with over two hundred researchers from around the globe set to present their latest findings.

The conference reflects the growing interest in topics such as bio-based polymers, biocomposites, biopolymers for advanced applications, the sustainability of biopolymers, and biopolymers in industry.

BIOPOL 2024 will feature several lectures on topics such as ‘Biodegradable polymers, composites and nanocomposites as alternatives to microplastics pollution’; ‘Human-based proteins to engineer a new generation of biomaterials’; " Sustainable Polymers for Biomedical Engineering: the way forward for a Net Zero Future’; ‘α-Amino acids based poly(ester amides): a myriad of opportunities in the biomedical field’; ‘Furan-based polymers: An interesting sustainable solution for food packaging’, among others.

Visit the BIOPOL official website for further information.
