The Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR), a research centre affiliated with the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), is collaborating on a European project for training and qualification in innovative energy solutions. The RePowerE(d)U project, funded by the LIFE programme, aims to develop training programmes in energy efficiency and renewable energy using innovative teaching tools such as virtual reality or augmented reality.

"The main objective is the establishment of training and qualification programmes for actors in the renewable energy sector: installers, technicians, specialists, operators, owners, consumers and producers," explains Nuno Quaresma, researcher at ISR.

The training programmes, the project coordinator continues, "will focus on smart solutions for building energy systems that integrate energy efficiency measures, namely renewable electricity generation, energy storage, and electric mobility. The idea is to make a better use of renewable energies and smooth out energy consumption peaks, developing and exploiting the energy flexibility that buildings can offer."
