Solemn Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year to take place on Wednesday, 1 October
The ceremony will begin at 10:30 am in the Great Hall of Acts (Sala dos Capelos). In the evening, the Academic Orchestra will perform the traditional Opening Symphony Concert at TAGV.
The University of Coimbra (UC) marks the official start of the 2025/26 academic year on Wednesday, 1 October, with the Solemn Opening Ceremony at 10:30 am in the Great Hall of Acts (Sala dos Capelos).
The event will feature speeches by the Rector, Amílcar Falcão, and the President of the UC Student Union (AAC), Carlos Magalhães, along with the traditional keynote address (Oração de Sapiência) by Paulino Teixeira, Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics.
Later the same day, at 9:30 pm, the UC Academic Orchestra will present the traditional Opening Symphony Concert at Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente (TAGV). Entitled Twilight and Dawn, the programme explores these two moments of the day - dawn and dusk - through a poetic and semiotic symphonic repertoire.
