The Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing (MIA Portugal) is hosting the "2nd MIA-Portugal Ageing Spring School", 27-29 May 2024, to provide advanced and intensive training for PhD students and early career researchers interested in the field of ageing. The organisers state that "The 2nd MIA-Portugal Ageing Spring School offers an opportunity to gain knowledge into the latest scientific trends in Ageing. The 3-day programme features discussions with leading Ageing experts, fostering an international networking environment, and providing a platform to share groundbreaking results."

The initiative plays a key role in the scientific community of the University of Coimbra, especially among researchers dedicated to the study of ageing. The lecture programme of the 2nd MIA-Portugal Ageing Spring School features internationally renowned speakers in the field, providing a valuable interaction between them and the participants, which contributes significantly to the reputation of the University of Coimbra. Furthermore, the initiative is highly relevant for PhD students and researchers, providing a platform to present and discuss their research with experienced and respected scientists in the field. Around 80 participants are expected to attend the event.

The second edition of the summer school aims to promote the use of "new methodologies to study the ageing process", says Hugo Fernandes. In addition, "young scientists starting their research in this field will be able to interact with more experienced researchers and help define new strategies in ageing research for the future," he explains.

During the three days, participants will be able to attend lectures "covering the different stages of the ageing process", says Alessio Vagnoni - from MIA Portugal and King's College London.

João Ramalho-Santos, Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Coimbra, who was present at the opening, "congratulated everyone on their efforts" and noted that the project "has done what it's supposed to do", such as "attracting other projects" and applications for funding for excellence in the field of ageing.
