June's 'Conversas Improváveis' (Improbable Conversations) will focus on the topic " Is Artificial Intelligence Changing the Healthcare Landscape?".

The event will take place on the 6th of June, from 12:00 to 13:00, at the Health Sciences Campus of the University of Coimbra.

The next improbable conversation, entitled "Is artificial intelligence changing the healthcare landscape?", will take place on the 6th of June, from 12:00 to 13:00, at Campus III of the University of Coimbra, opposite the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC), in collaboration with the Health Sciences Library.

The event will feature Bárbara Oliveiros from FMUC, Ernesto Costa from the UC Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Filipe Caseiro Alves, a radiologist, and also ChatGPT, with moderation by Raquel Alves and Sandra Amaral, and live illustration by Rui Tavares (comic artist). The cultural moment will be presented by Maria Teques (Master student in Biochemistry at the University of Coimbra), using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.

AI has become a ubiquitous force, penetrating various fields, including health. While its use offers enormous benefits, such as faster and more accurate diagnoses and the promise of personalised treatments, it also raises risks and ethical questions. Relying on AI algorithms to make medical decisions raises concerns about data privacy, bias and error, and the proximity of users to healthcare professionals, which necessitates the establishment of clear boundaries and regulations. Against this backdrop, how can we maximise the potential of artificial intelligence in healthcare?

"Conversas Improváveis" (Improbable conversations) is an initiative of the Communication Action Group of the Metabolism, Ageing and Disease (MAD) Research Line of the Centre for Innovation in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CIBB) of the University of Coimbra. It aims to raise awareness of different diseases and encourage early and informed action and decision-making, ultimately contributing to a healthier society, by promoting scientific and health literacy through informal discussions that approach topics from multiple perspectives.

"Conversas Improváveis" take place in several iconic locations of the University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, such as the Rómulo - UC Science Centre, the Science Museum, the Botanical Garden and the UC Exploratory, to name a few.

The next 'conversation' will be held on the 4th of July at noon, (venue to be announced soon), coordinated by the Communications Group of CIBB-UC.
