The Alma de Coimbra (Soul of Coimbra) association has been active for 17 years, with 40 choir members and musicians, all of whom are UC Alumni. They have given 300 concerts, many of them abroad, in 19 countries, including the United States, India, Cape Verde, Hong Kong and Chile.

Maestro Augusto Mesquita says that the members of the group are scattered all over the country, but "come together on Saturdays to practice here [in Coimbra]".

As a group of former students of the University of Coimbra (UC), their participation in the UC Orphika music cycle "made perfect sense". "We call what we do Sons da Portugalidade (Sounds of Portugal), because Alma de Coimbra only performs music in Portuguese and from Portuguese-speaking countries.

The concert "Sons da Portugalidade" (Sounds of Portugal) takes place on Friday the 24th of November, 9.30 pm, at the Coimbra Music Conservatory.
