3rd ESFERA(S) Forum in Coimbra
With a focus on eco-acting, sustainability, training, experimentation, social responsibility, and the arts, this international event on 10–11 October provides a platform for creativity, experimentation, and dialogue.
The Convento de São Francisco is hosting lectures, sessions, thematic panels, and workshops at the intersection of arts, science, and innovation, as the 3rd edition of the ESFERA(S) Forum gets underway on 10-11 October.
“Art helps transform imagination into action. And it is the younger generations who have the capacity to reimagine the world,” says Amílcar Falcão, Rector of the University of Coimbra (UC), during the opening session. By showing that “it is possible to combine tradition, innovation, culture, science, history, and the future,” UC demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Rector hopes “this forum will be a moment of reflection” and that “ideas capable of changing the world, to build a more sustainable future, will emerge from it.”
“We need to continue working together to strengthen synergies,” emphasises Paulo Pires do Vale, Commissioner of the National Arts Plan, highlighting the forum as a space to “rethink culture and society in new ways.”
“Culture is also a powerful weapon,” said Francisco Veiga, the deputy mayor of Coimbra. He points out that the topics addressed over the next two days are “highly relevant” for a “society committed to the future, better informed, conscious, and more tolerant.”
The forum, held in partnership with Coimbra City Council, the Prefeitura de Santos, Universidade de Santa Cecília, the National Arts Plan, and the Instituto Arte no Dique, brings together students, academics, artists, and representatives from Portugal and Brazil.
Over 10–11 October, the event focuses on Eco-acting, Sustainability, Training, Experimentation, Social Responsibility, and Art(s) — the themes behind the ESFERA(S) acronym — providing a platform for creativity, experimentation, and dialogue, and aiming to strengthen cultural, academic, and scientific ties between Portugal and Brazil.
