ERA Chairs in a nutshell
Scope
Research organisations located in Widening countries interested in establishing an ERA Chair should submit a proposal with the prospective ERA Chair holder who should be an outstanding researcher and/or innovator in the chosen scientific domain. The scientific field can be any domain of research and innovation.
The research institution in the Widening country will be the coordinator and submit a proposal as a single applicant (monobeneficiary). ERA Chair holders can be citizens of any country in the world.
Impacts on the UC
The projects are intended to contribute to the following results at the institutional level:
- 
	Strengthening research excellence at the UC in the specific scientific fields of activity of the ERA Chair holders; 
- 
	Increasing the attractiveness of the UC as a centre of excellence and mobility for international researchers; 
- 
	Creation of a permanent research group of excellence in the chosen scientific field, contributing to the recognition of the UC as a research university; 
- 
	Strengthening the capacity to attract competitive funding for research; 
- 
	Greater contribution to the knowledge-based economy and society. 
Funding
Horizon Europe has allocated a substantial budget to the ERA Chairs, estimating a financial contribution of between 1.5 and 2.5 million euros per project over a 5-year period.
