Applications

Are you planning to apply to a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA PF)?

An MSCA PF can be a great boost to your career if you are looking for a prestigious Fellowship that allows you to pursue your own independent research.

In 2025, applications can be received from May 8th to September 10th. To be eligible, applicants must be in possession of a PhD at the call deadline and have up to 8 years research experience after PhD. This period includes the following exceptions: career breaks, work outside research and research outside Europe for reintegrating researchers. Additionally, the mobility rule requires that you should be based in EU member States or Associated Countries and have not resided in Portugal for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to the call’s deadline in order to be eligible.

You may apply to an European Fellowship (12 - 24 months) or to a Global Fellowship (24 - 36 months, where 12 - 24 is the outgoing phase of the Fellowship + 12 months return phase in Europe), with the chance to pursue inter-sectorial secondments worldwide (up to 1/3 of the fellowship duration). Furthermore, you can opt to include an additional placement of up to 6 months in a non-academic European organization at the end of the Fellowship.

ERA Fellowships

When applying to a MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship, you can enhance your chances of funding by applying - at the same time, with the same proposal - to the ERA Fellowships. ERA stands for European Research Area. The ERA Fellowships build on the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships action targeting host organisations located in Widening Countries. The University of Coimbra is eligible to receive such Fellows, since Portugal is a Widening Country. Fellowships are open to researchers of any nationality who wish to engage in R&I projects by either coming to the EU from any country in the world or moving within the EU to a Widening Country. Your application to the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2024 will be automatically resubmitted to this call in case the proposal fails to reach an adequate place in the ranking to be funded. This simplified submission procedure to the ERA Fellowships call presents applicants moving to Widening countries with an additional funding opportunity.
