The Cultural Value of Biodiversity and Coastal Sustainability

"Promoting the Cultural Value of Biodiversity and Sustainability in Coastal Marine Territories" Project

We are proud to share the recent approval of funding for the project entitled "Promoting the Cultural Value of Biodiversity and Sustainability in Coastal Marine Territories: Enhancing Plural Knowledge and Practices through the Intercultural University of the Peoples."

This project is funded by CNPq through the Biodiversity Research Program (PPBio). The call aimed to encourage projects that leverage regional expertise to expand and disseminate knowledge about Brazilian biodiversity and ecosystems in a planned and coordinated way, through research networks dedicated to the identification, characterization, enhancement, and sustainable use of biodiversity. Additionally, the project aims to develop strategic actions for biodiversity policies under the Biodiversity Research Program.

The project is affiliated with the "Marangatu Network - Citizen Science Network for Territorial Governance and Promotion of Preservation and Enhancement Policies for Coastal Marine Sociobiodiversity," coordinated by Edmundo Gallo from the Bocaina Sustainable and Healthy Territories Observatory (OTSS) and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). In the Societies and Environmental Sustainability Research Line at the Centre for Functional Ecology - Science for People & the Planet, this associated project will be coordinated by Fátima Alves, with the participation of researchers Helena Freitas, Rosário Rosa, Paula Castro, Ana Mendonça, Vanda Viegas, Jorge Moreira, and Diogo Guedes Vidal. We are excited to embark on this journey toward a more sustainable future that respects territories and the elements that compose them!

Stay tuned for further developments.
