The Centre for Functional Ecology - Science for People & the Planet at the University of Coimbra, with an extension at the Open University of Portugal, has been rated EXCELLENT by the FCT!
This recognition is the fruit of long, solid and ethical collective work. A journey made through a network with critical research, committed and deeply involved with the major issues of our time.The Societies and Environmental Sustainability Research Group has responsibly recognised the centrality of the relationship between societies and nature, integrating the social, cultural, and political dimensions of ecosystems.
In this context, the group has built projects that tackle key issues for a just ecological transition and sustainability through multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary approaches, articulating diverse knowledge and transformative practices. The evaluation that the Centre for Functional Ecology - Science for People & the Planet is now receiving acknowledges this path. However, it also calls on us to go further, with even more responsibility and boldness.
Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this result - with a special mention to our coordinator, Prof Helena Freitas, whose vision and dedication inspire us daily and to Prof Fátima Alves, coordinator of our research group and Extension at the Open University, for embracing plurality and recognising multiple possibilities as a way forward.
We continue together for a fairer, more sustainable, empathetic and plural future.
