Decolonizing thought for a more sustainable and just world

In an opinion piece published in Diário As Beiras, Fátima Alves, researcher and coordinator of the Societies and Environmental Sustainability Research Group at the Centre for Functional Ecology – Science for People & the Planet, Terra Associated Laboratory, University of Coimbra, and its extension at the Open University of Portugal, invites us to reflect on the cultural and social "lenses" shaping our worldview and challenges the dominance of prevailing knowledge systems. Drawing on her experiences with non-Western communities, the author underscores the urgency of decolonising thought, advocating for a respectful coexistence with nature and the multiple forms of life and knowledge it encompasses.
