Rosário Rosa, a researcher in the Societies and Environmental Sustainability Research Group at the Centre for Functional Ecology - Science for People & the Planet, has had her photographs recognised on the Fotógrafas en el mundo website, ‘a collective with an exciting project that shares and gives visibility to the diversity of views/photographs of women from all over the world!’.

Let's share a little of your story.

"I was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1971.
I've always been more of a listener than a talker. I've always enjoyed observing people and places, losing track of time with the small details. Ever since I was a child, I liked looking at photographs. I had an older cousin who used to organise family slide shows, still in black and white, and it was a real treat for me. I'm a sociologist, perhaps because of this same love of observation. From an early age, I realised that life contexts, more than speeches, are essential for understanding people's actions and interactions. My love of photography also came from this desire to go beyond what is said, what is spoken, and what is rationalised. What I learnt about photography was, above all, from seeing the work of other photographers. I like colour, and I've always photographed in colour, until recently, when I wanted to focus on black and white photography for its rawness and ability to capture essences and details without other distractions. Photography is a moment of introspection, silence, and stopping, a break from today's hectic life. When I'm photographing, external, chronological time is suspended to remain in another time, internal, silent, but with an intense relationship with the world, with others and with life.
