From September 16 to 25, the University of Coimbra will host Sustainability Days, a program open to the community that marks the National Sustainability Day and invites reflection and action on today’s major global challenges.
On September 16 at 11:30 am, in the Botanical Garden of UC, researcher Maria de Fátima Alves, from the Centre for Functional Ecology – Science for People & the Planet (UC), Coordinator of the Research Group Societies and Environmental Sustainability, and Associate Professor at Universidade Aberta, will take part in the Green Talk “The Role of Connection to Nature in the Sustainable Transition”, in dialogue with Professor Alexandra Aragão (FDUC).
In this session, Fátima Alves will reflect on how people’s relationship with nature is essential to rethinking development models and addressing the environmental and social challenges of our time, from climate change to biodiversity loss, while also highlighting the need to build more resilient and supportive communities.
Her contribution will emphasize that strengthening our bond with nature is not only a matter of individual awareness but also a collective pathway to fostering social justice, ecological health, and active commitment to moving towards just, plural, and empathetic sustainability transitions.
