The Societies and Environmental Sustainability Research Group is pleased to invite you to the lecture From stewards to legal persons – the Aotearoa New Zealand journey, delivered by Trevor Daya-Winterbottom FRSA FRGS PhD Barrister, Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for Environmental, Resources, and Energy Law at the University of Waikato, New Zealand.

This lecture will explore the conceptual evolution of protecting natural resources in Aotearoa/New Zealand — from the principle of the stewardship ethic, through the guardianship of lakes and fjords, to the conferral of legal personality and ownership on mountains and rivers — and will reflect on the possible paths this journey may take in the future.

— The event will be moderated by Fátima Alves*.
