Support for Students with Specific Educational Needs
Recognising the right to equality in difference is something that concerns everyone.
Support for students with specific educational needs is aimed at inclusion in the academic context, contributing to quality teaching, as well as identifying physical, communication and information barriers that hinder the social and school integration of these students.

How to request support?
To obtain support, you must request the status of Student with Special Needs, provided for in the Academic Regulations of the University of Coimbra.
To obtain this status, which requires prior validation by SASUC, you must schedule a personalized interview to assess the academic and social disadvantages you face in an academic context and to define strategies and measures to overcome the identified obstacles.
How to schedule the interview?
To schedule the interview, you must send an email to gabadmin@sas.uc.pt, indicating your name, student number and telephone number.
You will later receive confirmation of the date and time of the requested service.
What is the deadline to request support?
Support must be requested for each semester, within the following deadlines:
- 1st semester: until October 31st;
- 2nd semester: until March 31st.
You must have an interview with the Social Worker before the deadline to apply for support.
How can I access school materials in alternative formats?
We have a Centre for the production of teaching materials in alternative formats. To find out more about the materials and how you can request them, send an e-mail to gabadmin@sas.uc.pt.
We also have an Inclusive Library, which operates on the floor of the Reading Room of the General Library, with equipment aimed at two groups of users: on the one hand, people with visual difficulties and, on the other, people with neuromotor difficulties.
