Strategic Framework

According to the Statutes of the University of Coimbra, the SASUC is one of the central units and services of the University of Coimbra (UC), endowed with administrative and financial autonomy, which is responsible for developing university social action within the scope of this Higher Education Institution. Its mission is defined in the articles of association:

‘The Social Action Services of the University of Coimbra (SASUC) pursue the objectives assigned to them by law, supporting students:

a) With direct social support measures: scholarships and emergency aid;

b) With indirect social support measures: access to food and accommodation, access to health services, support for cultural and sporting activities, and access to psycho-pedagogical support and other educational support.’

As an organic unit of the University of Coimbra, albeit with administrative and financial autonomy, SASUC's mission contributes to achieving the UC's vision:

"To be internationally recognised as a research university, where the production of high-quality knowledge influences the educational process and increases the sharing of knowledge with society, responding to the problems that belong to each and every one of us and contributing unreservedly to sustainable development."

In order to pursue this goal, it is essential to involve, value and care for the academic community, in the full conviction that everyone is important for success and that only with collective awareness and commitment will we achieve the desired future.

In this context, SASUC's operating model is based on the following guiding principles defined in the University of Coimbra's Strategic Plan 2019-2023:

Large institutions like the University of Coimbra have the great challenge of aligning the individual efforts of all members of the academic community. In this context, the SASUC is part of the UC's strategic planning process, from which it has aligned its Action Plan for the four-year period 2019-2023.
