RUAS Association

The RUAS Association (Recreate University – Alta and Sofia) was constituted, gathering, as founders, the University of Coimbra (UC), the Municipality of Coimbra, the Regional Office of the State Secretary of Culture and the SRU Coimbra Viva (Public Company for Urban Rehabilitation).

RUAS is headed by a Presidency (rotated between the University of Coimbra and the Municipality of Coimbra) and an Executive Board (chaired in turns by the Municipality of Coimbra and the University of Coimbra).

RUAS aims to:

• Safeguard, promote and manage the nominated property and buffer zone, defined in the nomination of the University of Coimbra for UNESCO World Heritage list;

• Safeguard, promote and manage the territory allocated to the Site designated by “University of Coimbra – Alta and Sofia” under the World Heritage classification as may be assigned by UNESCO;

• Promote, support and stimulate initiatives in scientific, cultural and social activities, allowing the preservation and improvement of the allocated heritage;

• Make available to members and other stakeholders updated information on funding for projects;

• Represent the classified site in national and international institutions.

This association is ruled by the STATUTES OF THE ASSOCIATION RUAS – RECREATE UNIVERSITY, ALTA AND SOFIA.
