General Information

Venue

The symposium will be held at the Department of Life Sciences, which is close to the Botanic Garden and part of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, one of the eight Faculties of the University.

Oral sessions

  • Presentations should be provided to the congress staff as soon as possible, preferably no later than the day before the presentation, either on site on via email to jorgecan@uc.pt or joao.martins@uc.pt.
  • Oral presentations are scheduled for a maximum of 15 min., plus 5 min. for discussion. Chairs of the sessions will keep strictly to this schedule.
  • Presenters are required to use the computer provided by the organization, with Windows OS and PowerPoint.

Guidelines:

- All presentations should be on 16:9 format.

- Presentation must be prepared in PowerPoint (.pptx format).

- Preferred standard Windows fonts.

- Make sure images have good resolution (a minimum of 300dpi is advisable).

- Video: WMV, MP4 or AVI are the only acceptable video formats.

- For macOS users is advisable to check your presentation on a Windows computer.


Posters

  • Posters (max A0: 84.1 cm x 118.9 cm) should be mounted on Monday 12.
  • Poster boards will be labeled with the number of the posters as appearing in Abstract Book (e.g. P21).
  • Posters should remain on display throughout the symposium and should be removed on Wednesday (October 30).
  • The organization will provide pins or other materials to fix the posters.
  • Poster display in digital format is not available.

Meals and coffee breaks

  • Lunches (October 28-30) will be provided and are included in the registration fee.
  • Coffee breaks will be served during morning and afternoon sessions.
  • An informal cocktail will be served on Monday afternoon (October 28).

Congress Dinner

Congress dinner will take place on Tuesday (October 29), followed by a session of Coimbra Fado. More information will be available soon.


Technical Tour

On Tuesday (October 29) a technical tour will take place. More information will be available soon.


Internet

During the symposium the organization will provide wireless internet access to all participants.


About Coimbra

Coimbra is located in the Center of Portugal, and has a population of around 135.000 (435.000 in the metropolitan area) with about 35.000 students. The University of Coimbra dates back to the 13th century (1290) and is the oldest university in Portugal and one of the oldest in Europe. The old part of the university is one of the main Portuguese touristic destinations.

The weather in Coimbra in October is generally mild and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C. October is considered a transition month between summer and winter, and it is not unusual for temperatures to fluctuate between warm and cool. On average, there are around 8 hours of daily sunshine. Rain is possible, but it is usually limited to a few showers throughout the month.


How to reach Coimbra

Coimbra is located in the Centre of Portugal, 150 km north of Lisbon, 100 km South of Porto and 35 km away from the Atlantic ocean, and can be reached through several modes of transportation:

  1. By Air trough Porto: Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (Porto) is the closest airport to Coimbra, and it is well-connected with several international and domestic destinations. From there, you can: (1) take a direct bus (Flixbus) to Coimbra bus station, or (2) take the metro, taxi, or any ride-hailing company to go to Porto main train station (Campanhã) where you can take a train (CP) to Coimbra main train station (Coimbra B). Buses leave regularly from the airport to Coimbra and take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Trains from Porto to Coimbra run several times per day and take approximately 40 minutes. Coimbra bus and train station are located near the city center.

  2. By Air trough Lisbon: Humberto Deslgado Airport (Lisbon) is the largest airport in Portugal and it is well-connected with several international and domestic destinations. From there, you can take the metro, taxi, or any ride-hailing company to go to Lisbon transport hub (Oriente) and then: (1) take a direct bus (Flixbus, RedeExpressos, etc.) to Coimbra bus station, (2) take a train (CP) to Coimbra main train station (Coimbra B). Buses leave regularly from Lisbon Oriente to Coimbra and take approximately 2 hour 30 minutes. Trains from Lisbon to Coimbra run several times per day and take approximately 2 hours.

  3. By Bus from Spain: Long-distance buses from Spain (Madrid, Salamanca, Bilbao and San Sebastian), arrive at Coimbra's bus station.

  4. By Car: Coimbra is located approximately 150 km from Lisbon and 100 km from Porto. It can be reached by car via the A1 motorway, which connects Lisbon and Porto. From Lisbon, the drive takes approximately 2 hours, and from Porto, it takes approximately 1 hour.


Liability and Insurance

The registration fee does not include any insurance for the participants or accompanying persons. The organizers are not liable for any injury or damage involving persons and property during the symposium. Participants are advised to take their own personal travel and health insurance for their trip.
