Launched this month by Coimbra University Press, the book "Under the lens of Open Science: Views from Portugal, Spain and Brazil" receives, starting this Friday, 19th, a series of webinars addressing the subjects covered in the collection. The work, coordinated by Maria Manuel Borges, from the University of Coimbra, and Elias Sanz Casado, from the Carlos III University of Madrid, has 18 chapters, with texts in Portuguese and Spanish, dealing with different aspects from the Open Science umbrella, besides an introduction signed by the Vice-Rector for Culture and Open Science of UC, Delfim Leão.

The work brings together authors from the three countries mentioned in the title and was developed from a collective effort that began in 2018 and is now concluded, with its launch in open access and the subsequent discussion of each chapter with its authors. "It is a very different format from the usual one, which is usually limited to the launch of the work, and which involves authors from three countries trying to respond to the same time zone, Lisbon", comments Maria Manuel Borges. According to the researcher in scholarly communication and professor at FLUC, "with this publication we seek to contribute to the stimulation of a change as urgent as necessary, through the discussion and eventual hybridization of experiences of the three countries involved, whose proximity in initiatives and sharing is very rich".

The first webinar dedicated to the themes of the book will be presented by the authors of chapter 9, "Ciencia Abierta y Derechos de Autor": Juan-Carlos Fernández-Molina, from Universidad de Granada; Daniel Martínez-Ávila, from Universidade Estadual Paulista; and Eduardo Graziosi Silva, from the University of São Paulo. The discussion and reflection on the theme of Copyright takes place via Zoom, from 5 pm to 6 pm, open to all interested (no pre-registration required). To participate, the Zoom ID indicated on the advertising banner must be used.

Other webinars are planned to take place until the end of July, to reflect and promote the discussion with the authors of all 18 chapters of the book. The exact dates and times of the next sessions will be released throughout the period.

The complex process of preparing this work, which took more than two years, mirrors the degree of dedication from the authors located in three countries, and of more than two dozen reviewers, who attest the scientific quality of the text. In addition to the challenge of bringing together researchers with limited time and managing the entire editorial process, the launch of the book demonstrates the need to "use approaches that overcome, for example, the difficulties related to the scientific arbitration process", highlights Maria Manuel Borges.

The work now available is aimed at teachers, higher education researchers, science evaluators, repository managers, librarians, students of advanced studies and "all those who seek to understand the changes in course with regard to production, dissemination and knowledge assessment ", says the volume organizer.
