Building bridges between Portuguese and Spanish research centres, focused on the common goods of Open Science: this was the central objective of the Spain & Portugal EOSC Tripartite Event, held last October 10 as part of the IBERGRID 2022 programming. The event took place in the city of Faro, at the premises of the University of Algarve, and included the participation of UC in the presentation of EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) activities in the Social Sciences and Humanities and in the advisory group on research careers and curricula.

The discovery platform GoTriple was the main highlight of the communication on activities in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities, presented by Jorge Noro (Institute of Interdisciplinary Research - iiiUC) and Lorena Caliman (UC Open Science). The platform is one of the dedicated services of the OPERAS infrastructure, which is on its way to becoming a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) by 2028. To this end, the infrastructure has received an investment of 2.7 million from the European Commission to further develop and sustain the infrastructure and its services.

The activities of the Research Careers, Recognition, and Credit task force, part of the Research Careers and Curricula advisory group, were presented by Delfim Leão, Vice-Rector for Open Science at UC and one of the task force coordinators. The team has been meeting since October 2021 to help embed incentives and rewards for researchers to manage and share data, code and other research outputs, activities and processes in order to make open science criteria and FAIR principles an integral part of academic career progression and grant evaluation processes.

The Spain & Portugal EOSC Tripartite Event fits into a series of national events of the European Open Science Cloud. The EOSC tripartite model is a concept of strategic coordination between the European Union, represented by the European Commission, the EOSC Association and the Member States and associated countries involved to provide resources and support the implementation of the EOSC in Europe. Thus, the goal is to promote an open science system by aligning national and EU policies to enhance the production of FAIR research results.
