What are your first thoughts when you come across the term "crowdfunding" for science, and more specifically, for the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH)? If the question got you intrigued, get ready to participate in the second edition of TRIPLE ThatCamp, on the afternoon of 15 June. The event, online, will be dedicated to sharing ideas, concepts and strategies for crowdfunding, besides its potential, among other possibilities - the event's sessions are defined on the day itself.

ThatCamp (The Humanities and Technology Camp) is an "unconference": a spontaneous gathering without a planned thematic agenda. The event proposes a theme - in this case, crowdfunding for Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) - and, drawing from this, the sessions that follow shall be proposed by the participants. Whether they are currently working on a project, paper or talk, and would like others to collaborate; or have a story to share that they would like to hear other participants' views on; or would like to pose a problem for discussion and seek solutions together - whatever it is, everyone is invited to submit their suggestion.

At the beginning of the event, people who are willing to lead a session will be invited to pitch their idea (30-60 seconds). Then, depending on the number of suggestions, the other participants will vote on the topics they want to take to the event's final agenda.

The #2 TRIPLE ThatCamp is organised by TRIPLE, a European project funded by Horizon 2020 and integrated by UC (2019-2023). The main goal of the project is to develop GoTriple (available in Beta version), a multilingual Open Science platform for SSH that provides access to publications, projects and profiles of researchers from all over Europe, as well as innovative services. GoTriple is now available in 10 languages, including Portuguese.

TRIPLE ThatCamp's

In 2021, the #1st TRIPLE ThatCamp took place in May, to discuss the concept of "Discovery" in the Social Sciences and Humanities, and counted with the participation of around 50 people from many SSH disciplines.

This second edition seeks to promote the exchange of ideas about whether crowdfunding can be a viable way for research in the Social Sciences and Humanities, what are its possible benefits, strategies and its potentials. The term "scientific crowdfunding" has mainly evoked images of researchers from the natural, medical or technical sciences, while highly publicised and visible campaigns in the SSH are rare. In this area, the full potential of generating funds is still to be explored.

In addition to using Zoom for video conferencing, the participants will share ideas using Miro, a collaborative whiteboard tool. Participants will be encouraged to produce written and/or graphic materials to document their ideas. Later, TRIPLE will share these materials with the community by publishing them on Zenodo and the TRIPLE website, as well as disseminating them on social media.
