The third edition of the Open Science FAIR Conference takes place in September, between the 20th and the 23rd, and will be held completely online. The event is an OpenAIRE initiative and is co-organized by other eight international Open Science institutions: COAR, EIFL, Force 11, LA Referencia, LIBER, OPERAS, Sparc and Sparc Europe. The University of Coimbra is directly represented through the OPERAS infrastructure, being a member of its Executive Assembly.

Open Science FAIR conference 2021 aims to bring together and empower open science communities and services, to identify common practices related to open science, to see what are the best synergies to offer services that work for many, and to bring experiences from all over the world and learn from each other.

The conference presents six key topics:

- Interdisciplinary collaborations: Networks, services, methods

- Sustaining open infrastructure, services and tools for research communities

- Value added data products/services from open science

- Training and skills for Open Science

- European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and FAIR data

- Citizen Science: barriers and opportunities for collaboration.

Each of the topics is divided into subcategories, which guide the submissions of papers and workshops at the event. The submission deadline is running until July 26th.

Workshop proposals may vary between 90, 120 or 180 minutes. They should emphasize current topics of particular interest to the Open Science community in the latest issues related to Open Science, FAIR principles and infrastructure, in political, legal, technical and business model aspects. Details about the submissions can be found at this link.

Presentation proposals are divided into lighting talks and demos and are opportunities for individuals, teams and projects to showcase their latest knowledge and potential solutions to support Open Science and FAIR data in academic, commercial or public environments. More information on this link.

The Open Science FAIR Conference 2021 brings the theme “Fostering local and global open science communities”. The event is based on the understanding that open science is at a crossroads, with progress in the implementation and adoption at various levels; however, different models are emerging and producing a seemingly fragmented ecosystem. The event organisation sustains that interoperability between communities and services should be ensured, as well as a variety of workflows and knowledge systems.

General registrations for the event are free and will be open soon.
