The session "The creation of the National Health Service: the conquest of a right (1974-1979)" takes place this Thursday, 28th. The event is hosted at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) Sofia and will feature the screening of a documentary produced by the 25AprilPTLab project team, followed by a debate.

The documentary produced by 25AprilPTLab, with the support of the 25th of April Documentation Centre (CD25A) team, includes images of dozens of original documents and live testimonials from those who were directly involved in the early days of the Portuguese National Health Service (SNS), as well as reflecting the CD25A collections. The documentary is scripted by Pierre Marie and edited by Eduardo Albuquerque. An exhibition on the same theme of the history of the creation of the SNS, started on 28 September this year, is open at the Colégio da Graça until 31 December and has a virtual version, available on the CD25A website.

The 25AprilPTLab - Interactive Laboratory of the Portuguese Democratic Transition - is a project carried out in partnership between CES and CD25A and consists of a repository of documents and educational resources, in Open Access, about the Portuguese contemporary history from 1958 to 1972. The online platform that addresses the period of transition to Portuguese democracy is aimed at the educational community, with a focus on primary and secondary school teachers, as well as the general public.

The digital contents of the repository are handled by the research team of the project, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), with documentary validity and historical accuracy necessary for their use in educational processes. The platform also includes an authoring tool where teachers can use the available resources to create content appropriate to their discipline and teaching level.

The 25AprilPTLab makes use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to provide multimedia resources on the recent history of Portugal and the cultural heritage associated with the 25th of April period, serving as a vehicle for the memory of the country's cultural and political heritage. It also promotes the creation and construction of knowledge, encouraging dialogue between teachers and students and strengthening the democratic convictions of new generations.
