Crowdfunding can also be used for science. And it is to promote this practice in the Social Sciences and Humanities that the OPERAS Research Infrastructure launches a channel on wemakeit, one of the largest crowdfunding platforms in Europe, founded in 2012. The OPERAS channel is launched in collaboration with TRIPLE, one of the infrastructure projects, which develops the multilingual and multicultural dedicated discovery service GoTriple.

The wemakeit platform can be used by researchers in the most diverse positions and stages of their career: whether they are at the beginning of their career at a university or research organization, or as an independent researcher or an established scholar looking for a new research line. Crowdfunding campaigns can, for example, be used to publish critical editions, organize scientific exhibitions, launch surveys and studies with local or global impact.

The first researchers to launch their crowdfunding campaign through the OPERAS channel in 2022 will receive, as a bonus, extra support from a communication agency funded by the French Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation.

To help the community understand the potential of crowdfunding for the Social Sciences and Humanities, an introductory workshop will be held on Thursday, January 13th. The workshop, which takes place online via Zoom, starts at 17:00 CET (16:00 Portugal time).

The science crowdfunding experts from wemakeit will present attendees with tips and tools to understand what crowdfunding is, how it can be applied to science, and how to launch your own campaign on the OPERAS channel to gather financial support from the public, but also how to communicate your research in the most exciting format.

The session will feature 30 minutes of questions and answers. Registrations can be made at this link.
