MIA-Portugal is actively recruiting 2 Senior Technicians for the Synapse Architecture Group, led by Joana Ferreira and the MemBRAIN: Neuronal Surface Biology Group, led by Luís Ribeiro.
Job description: The research technicians will perform molecular biology techniques (cloning, mini/midi-preps, etc.); cell culture (human, heterologous, and primary neurons); preparation of recombinant proteins; and preparation of commonly used media and solutions. Additionally, the technicians will be responsible for managing rodent colonies in interaction with the animal facility, managing the laboratory, orders, and stocks, and welcoming new members. It is expected that the technicians prepare scientific reports, present results at internal meetings, discuss new scientific projects, and participate in science communication and dissemination activities.
Qualifications and professional experience required:
- Hold PhD or MSc degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or related areas.
- Must have experience with various types of laboratory techniques and equipment, and scientific work carried out in the areas of molecular biology and neurobiology.
- Proficiency in the written and spoken English language is essential.
- Experience in laboratory management will be valued.
- Teamwork and cooperation, proactivity, ability to deal with stress, initiative and autonomy, critical thinking, planning, and organization will be valued skills.

Job description: Consultative functions and the study, planning, programming, evaluation, and application of technical and/or scientific methods and processes to support decision-making. The role includes independently or collaboratively preparing opinions and projects of varying complexity, and performing general or specialized support activities in common, instrumental, and operational areas. Responsibilities include assisting with planning, programming, evaluating studies, and applying methods and processes to support project-related decisions. The position also involves contributing to projects, supporting laboratory activities, representing the lab to external audiences, and maintaining Drosophila laboratory stocks and consumables. Candidates should have good English skills, both written and spoken. Training will be provided for working with Drosophila.
Qualifications and professional experience required:
- Hold a Bachelor´s degree in Biology (CNAEF 421) and/or Life Sciences (CNAEF 420).
- Must be proficiency in the written and spoken English language.

Job description: The work to be carried out will initially aim to interrogate the Drosophila genome using genome engineering in a quest to find new geroprotectors and, throughout the project, may be combined with in vivo and in vitro approaches using Drosophila melanogaster and mammalian cell culture models. The research activities will employ several research techniques, including Drosophila genetics, advanced microscopy, Drosophila and mammalian cell culture, biochemistry, molecular biology, optogenetics and behavioural assays.
Qualifications and professional experience required:
- Hold a relevant PhD degree.
- Must have experience working with Drosophila and proven knowledge in the field of neurobiology and/or cell biology.
- Experience with live cell microscopy and/or genome engineering would be advantageous but not essential.
- Must have leadership skills and proficiency in the written and spoken English language.
Employment Conditions:
- Full-time, at MIA-Portugal, at the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal.
- Fixed term position for three years, renewable for periods of one year, up to a maximum of six years.
- 3.427,59€ monthly gross salary.
