Problem

What is the cause that moves us?

Nowadays, fossil fuel-derived plastics are the most common materials for food packaging due to easy production and low-cost starting resources. However, these materials are synthetic, non-biodegradable and ecologically unfriendly. Million tonnes of packaging plastic wastes are produced worldwide every year, causing environmental and health issues.

Furthermore, since around 25% of the ex-factory cost of consumer food is for their packaging, and therefore functional packages at both minimum cost and environmental impact are desirable.

Lifestyles and consumer’s demands are changing, and biodegradable food packaging systems have gained increased interest.
