The European Researchers' Night is a science communication event that takes place annually in several European cities, with the aim of promoting awareness and the population's involvement in science, bringing researchers and civil society closer together.

With the theme "SCIGLO -Science for Global Challenges", the 2025 edition took place on September 26th in Coimbra and in three other cities of the consortium, Lisbon, Braga and Évora. This event involved nine national partners in the area of research, dissemination and implementation of inclusion and sustainability, which were also joined by our local partners.

The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (iiiUC), as the representative of the UC, in collaboration with the Coimbra Downtown Promotion Agency and the support of municipal entities, organised a full programme of activities.

NEI 2024/25 activities aim to involve the general public, with a special focus on schools, their students and the older population.

The programme for European Researchers' Night Coimbra 2025 will include:

• Science Route | Researchers will be spread across various locations in downtown Coimbra | 26 September 2025, from 5 p.m. to midnight
• Researchers@Schools | Activities developed between researchers and students from schools in the Coimbra region will be presented on the Science Route

The European Researchers' Night (ERN) at the University of Coimbra (UC) is back!

2024/25 theme is SCIGLO -Science for Global Challenges. All scientific areas are invited to be part of this edition of NEI and to propose activities that fit this theme. For some it may be more challenging, but I trust in your originality!

NEI 2024 will take place on September 26th, 2025 in Downtown Coimbra, from 5pm to midnight.

Activity proposals must be submitted by filling out this form (closed) by July 18th 11th 2025 (NEW DATE).

The entire program is subject to restrictions associated with weather conditions. We will report on the acceptance and distribution of activities no later than the beginning of September.

Do you want to be a volunteer for the European Researchers' Night?

The Researchers' European Night (NEI) at Universidade de Coimbra (UC) is back!

The theme 2024/25 is SCIGLO - Science for Global Challenges. All scientific areas of the University of Coimbra are invited to be part of this edition of NEI and to propose activities that fit theme.

NEI 2025 will take place on September 26th 2024, in Coimbra's downtown, from 17h00 to 00h00, in a Science Route for which we need your help!

There will also be room for you to present your doctoral work / research project in Speed Dating format (communication with a maximum time of 3 minutes).

You will also receive training to be prepared for the event and some communication tips.

You will also have access to the Volunteer Kit, which includes a t-shirt, ID, dinner box, and a certificate.
