This 11 February 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Celebrating science and technology is also about promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls who make a crucial contribution to the world's economic and social development. On this International Day for Women and Girls in Science, the Institute for Interdisiciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra through the Include European Project continues to promote initiatives to combat the gender gap in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines and the participation of women and girls in education and training, as well as women's access to full employment and decent work. Overcoming the gender gap in science means promoting programmes and projects that foster inclusive environments through policies and actions that promote diversity and equity and disrupt stereotypes, as women and girls continue to face barriers and discrimination when they want to pursue scientific careers.

We are totally aligned with the United Nations, which states that ‘Women and girls belong in science and their inclusion fosters innovation’.
