CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF A SCIENCE CAREER IN EUROPE

Organization: Postdocs@UC Initiative

Duration: 2 days

Date: to be announced

Location: Coimbra, Portugal

ENPA is organizing its first meeting with the aim of creating a space for debate on the various European scientific systems focusing on working conditions and career progression of postdoctoral researchers. In this meeting, entitled “Challenges and opportunities of a science career in Europe”, we will discuss two important aspects of the scientific systems in Europe. 1) The role of researchers’ associations in the shaping of scientific systems, employment and funding opportunities. 2) The need for a broader understanding of the diversity of the scientific systems in Europe in order to promote mobility and scientific collaboration.

We believe that this meeting will contribute to the development of informed proposals for improving existing scientific systems, promoting healthier and more efficient scientific employment, and thereby improving the quality of science with real short- and long-term impact on our society.

The meeting structure will consist of two separate moments. Day 1 will be open to the scientific community with presentations focused on the diversity of academic systems in Europe, the European Union’s vision on scientific employment, and the relevance of researchers’ movements in the definition of academic systems. Day 2 will be restricted to ENPA’s members and will be important for the definition of ENPA’s future goals and activities.

Registration for Day 1, open to the general public, will be open on December.
