ERC grants at the University of Coimbra

The European Research Council (ERC) was created in 2007 by the European Union (EU) to fund scientists of excellence and their creative ideas.

The fundamental activity of the ERC is to provide attractive, long-term funding to support excellent investigators and their research teams to pursue ground-breaking, high-gain/high-risk research.

Main ERC principles:

  • Scientific excellence

  • One researcher, one host institution, one project

  • Any field of research

  • Researchers from anywhere in the world, of any age and career stage

  • No consortia, no networks, no co-financing

Currently, the ERC is a key strand of Horizon Europe, the EU Program for Research and Innovation.

Several researchers from the University of Coimbra were awarded an ERC grant.
