Workshop at the General Library

A workshop entitled How to write an excellent research article and get it accepted by a good journal will take place at the General Library on October 6, at 2:00 p.m.

It will be conducted by Anthony Newman, former Elsevier editor, who is in Portugal during October and kindly offered to support the Portuguese research community by leading a series of author workshops. With over 25 years of professional experience in scientific journals, he will share valuable insights into the publication process and also address the b-on Agreement and our TA.

Learning how to structure your article effectively and select the most suitable journal greatly increases the chances of acceptance. Understanding how editors think, what they expect, and how the peer-review process works offers an invaluable perspective on publishing.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have a clear idea of the steps required before starting to write an article, including how to choose the right journal—whether open access or not. They will also be able to plan the writing process using a logical sequence of steps, rather than the order in which the article is read. Authors will gain awareness of the aspects of manuscripts that editors, reviewers, and publishers evaluate most critically, and by addressing these areas, their chances of acceptance will increase significantly.

The workshop will also cover how to respond effectively to reviewers’ comments and the art of polite rebuttal, showing how these can be used to improve a submitted article. Sensitive areas such as editorial ethics, plagiarism, duplicate publication, and the responsible use of AI will also be addressed.

We look forward to your participation! Register HERE.
