MSc in Psychological Science

1. About the course

The MSc in Psychological Science (MPS) is an innovative master's degree that focuses on preparing its students for research and research careers. That is, MPS prepares their students to embark on a doctoral program in Psychology, to be part of research teams and be members of research projects, as well as to be consultants in the public, private and the third sector.

This MSc is also innovative in several key aspects:

1) The course structure is very flexible, students can build their curriculum by selecting a series of elective courses according to their interests and motivations. For example, the entire second semester of the 1st year is composed of elective courses;

2) MPS covers several scientific areas of psychology, and students focus in one of these areas from the 2nd semester of the first year;

3) all students have a tutor who supports and accompanies their path and curricular choices in the master's program;

4) MPS has regular seminars and masterclasses presented by researchers from FPCE-UC and guest lecturers from the different areas of psychology;

5) MPS can be offered both in Portuguese and/or in English, and students may choose the language in which they do their master's degree;

6) in addition to the master's thesis, the MSc program includes an internship in a research context, either in the R&D units of FPCE-UC, or in a professional context for those who are already working as psychologists.

2. Students profile

The MSc in Psychological Science is intended for BA/BSc graduates in different areas (not only in the field of psychology) and also for psychologists who wish to update their knowledge on the most recent psychological research and strategies for acquiring competitive funding.
