Maria João de Castro Soares

Biographical sketch
She is a clinical psychologist and senior technician-researcher at the Department of Psychological Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, Portugal (DPM-FMUC).
She has a master degree in Psychology, in the specialization area of Psychological Assessment, from de Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, University of Coimbra.
She worked in the area of special education (in the Azores Special Education Centre, Horta, Faial, Azores and in the Azores Special Education Team, also in Horta) and in the area of drug prevention and treatment (Gabinet for Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment, in Macau, South China), as a clinical psychologist.
She has been working at the Department of Psychological Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra (DPM-FMUC) since 1995, in the supervision of master's theses and in multiple research projects developed at DPM-FMUC, as a member of the team or as a principal researcher.
She is author/co-author of several national and international publications, including posters, articles, scientific books and book chapters.

Sandra Carvalho Bos

Sandra Carvalho Bos holds a Degree in Psychology, field of Work and Organizational Psychology, a Master degree in Psychology, specialization in Cognitive-Behavioral and Systemic Clinical Psychology, from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Coimbra, Portugal and a Ph.D. in the field of Chronobiology and Sleep from the Research Institute for Sports and Exercise Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom. Postdoctoral activities were carried out at the Institute of Medical Psychology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra (2003-2006) where she is currently a researcher.
Her scientific research is focused on the relationship between activity, sleep, psychological factors (personality, emotional regulation and cognitions) and well-being throughout the life cycle. She is interested in objective and non-invasive methods of measuring sleep, as actiwatches or smartwatches, and adaptation and validation of questionnaires to Portugal. In this field of research, she has been involved as responsible researcher or team member of scientific projects and collaborating in pedagogical activity co-supervising integrated master, master and doctoral students.

Ana Araújo is an Invited Lecturer at the Institute of Psychological Medicine, Faculty of Medicine - University of Coimbra, where she lectures medical undergraduates and has been participating in research projects.
She is currently a PhD student of the Doctoral Programme in Health Sciences by the Faculty of Medicine - University of Coimbra, and a researcher fellow at the Technology and Science Foundation. Her special interests in investigation are the neurobiological underpinnings of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, with the aim of identifying potential biomarkers.
She is completing his specialty training in Psychiatry at Coimbra Hospital and University Centre (CHUC) where he is currently developing clinical activity in the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Adult Neurodevelopmental Outpatient Units

Carolina Cabaços

PhD candidate at Doctoral Programme in Health Science in Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra (FMUC). Master Degree in Medicine by FMUC (2017). Completed her Master thesis – “The role of Perfectionism and Dark Traits in Emotional Intelligence” – in the field of Psyschological Medicine, advisored by Professor António Macedo and Professor Ana Telma Pereira. Since then, her interest and dedication over Psychological Medicine have been increasing. She completed her General Training of Medical Residency in Centro Hospitalar de Entre o Douro e Vouga (2018), and, in January of 2019, she started her Specialized Training in Psychiatry at Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC).
Carolina is an invited lecturer at the Institute of Psychological Medicine (IPM). She also co-coordinates the scientific supervision of pre-graduate master thesis, mainly in the fields of personality, emotional regulation and mental illness related stigma. She’s currently one of two national coordinators (together with Ana Telma Pereira, PhD) of an ongoing European study about the stigmatizing attitudes of psychiatrists towards their patients. She is the principal investigator and co-investigator in various research projects at IPM. She has also been giving her contribute to the development and validation of psychological assessment tools.
Her main research interests are the study of mental illness related stigma, personality and obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders.

Diana de Matos Mortágua

Master Degree in Medicine by Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto (FMUP) in 2017. Completed her Master Thesis under the guidance of Professor Lia Fernandes in the scientific area of Psychiatry: "Cognitive changes in Late-Life Depression”. Completed her General Training of Medical Residency in Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra (2018) and, in January 2021, started Residency in Psychiatry at CHUC, which is still ongoing.
At the same time, she attended the Degree in Music (Transverse Flute) at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo (ESMAE), which she concluded in 2016. She continued on to the Master in Music Teaching, having presented the thesis project in “Anxiety in Performance” – a challenge to be completed, in the medium term.
In order to reconcile the two areas of interest, she trained in Benenzon Model of Music Therapy and Non-Verbal Therapy (6 levels), having even completed one of the levels with the model's mentor himself, the psychiatrist and musician Rolando Omar Benenzon.
In this way, her main areas of interest cover topics such as: Anxiety disorders; Performance anxiety; Music therapy and other psychotherapies, especially involving arts; Stigma associated with mental illness.

Maria João Brito

Maria João Brito is an invited lecturer, teaching and research assistant in the Institute of Medical Psychology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra since 2021.
She has a master’s degree in Medicine since 2018 and is currently employed as a Psychiatry Trainee in Coimbra University Hospital Centre, being a part of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Non-Invasive Neurostimulation Units.
Additionally, she is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in Health Management and Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra.

Mário Rui Silva de Sousa Carneiro

Master’s degree in medicine by the School of Medicine, University of Minho (EMUM), completed in 2017. After conclusion of the General Training of Medical Residency in Hospital Santa Maria Maior, Barcelos, he started his Specialized Training in Psychiatry at Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC).
Currently, he is an invited lecturer at the Institute of Psychological Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine – University of Coimbra.

Miguel Bajouco

Miguel Bajouco (b. 1981, Coimbra) is a consultant psychiatrist at the Psychosis Unit and Early Intervention in Psychosis team of the Department of Psychiatry at Coimbra Hospital and University Centre (CHUC).
Graduated (2008) and Master in Medicine by FMUC (2010), he specialized in Psychiatry (2011-2016) at CHUC (Sobral Cid Psychiatric Hospital and Coimbra University Hospital) and at the prestigious Maudsley Hospital in London, where in 2014 he held a position as Honorary Psychiatrist in the early intervention in psychosis team - OASIS. At the same time he was also a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Psychosis at the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London.
His clinical practice is comprehensive, including different psychiatric disorders, but with a special interest in schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
At the academic level, he is Invited Lecturer of Medical Psychology and Neurosciences and Mental Health at FMUC.
He is a PhD student and clinical researcher at the Institute of Psychological Medicine of FMUC and at CIBIT (Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research), aiming to discover biomarkers of treatment response in Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders using brain imaging techniques such as PET and fMRI associated with Artificial Intelligence techniques.
He is author or co-author of several book chapters and scientific articles in international peer-review journals. He received several national and international scientific awards, including the D. Manuel de Mello Scholarship (most important research award for young doctors in Portugal) for his PhD project Multimodal neuroimaging in First Episode Psychosis: the quest for biomarkers of treatment response (INSPIRE: NeuroImagiNg FirSt PsychosIs TReatmEnt).
