SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MOLECULAR TESTS OF HIGH QUALITY -FFPE AND LIQUID BIOPSY

Solid Tumors Requirements - Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded
  • Tissue should be fixed in formalin and not exposed to hard decalcification solution- contact IAP-PM.
  • The paraffin block should contain till 3 mm thickness of tumor.
  • Slides should be properly labeled with a block label that matches the surgical pathology specimen number on the surgical pathology report.
  • Slides should be sent at room temperature in proper storage containers (plastic slide boxes) to protect them during shipment.
  • Surgical Pathology and/or Cytology Report and completed filled Requisition must accompany all specimens.

Peripheral Blood - Liquid biopsy

  • 5 ml of fresh peripheral blood collected in Streck / EDTA tube or ACD tube.
  • Tube with blood should be refrigerated until shipment at 4°C. A maximum of 4 is expected to start tubes transport.
  • Shipment is at ambient temperature in a properly labeled shipping container for biohazard substances.
  • A surgical pathology and/or cytology report and completed requisition for must accompany all specimens.

QUALITY POLICY

The Mission of the IAP-PM is to provide Pathology Services of Excellence in Surgical Pathology, Medical Pathology, Cytopathology, Molecular, Digital and Experimental Pathology.

The aim of promoting the improvement of the Population's Quality of Life by carrying out correct diagnoses and in accordance with the best practices and methodologies, established in collaboration with entities with a Medical and / or Research profile.

We follow the philosophy of FMUC, as the Center's reference center in providing services to society and the medical and scientific communities, training for Medical and Biotechnical professionals and availability for collaboration.

The IAP-PM has a quality management system for continuous improvement of processes, methodologies and resources, in order to obtain excellent quality results and customer satisfaction, being at the level of design and development.

Technical competence and rigor are applied in the various frameworks of Pathological Anatomy: Laboratories of IAP-PM integrate a team in continuous training, in the application of quality systems and in the commitment under the IAP-PM, in the legal scope for the Center from Portugal.

IAP-PM is endorsed by the Laws of the Ministry of Health of Portugal that regulate the services of Anatomical Pathology and Human Genetics and with the ISO 9001/2015 certification standards.
