General Objectives of the Course
The Master Course in Biomedical Research aims to create conditions for a differentiated and high merit scientific training that prepares students for Research in Biomedicine. To achieve this, MIB is founded on excellence of teaching associated to excellence in biomedical scientific research, providing an environment that allows the training and preparation of scientists capable of developing or participating in research activities in the different specialization branches of the course, namely “Vision Sciences”, “Neurobiology”, “Oncobiology” and “Infection and Immunity”. The course aims to familiarise students with the real and quotidian processes that govern scientific research practices, including the formulation of valid hypothesis, experimental design, experimentation, critical interpretation of results and the analysis of their relevance for the advancement of scientific knowledge.

Admission Requirements
- Students holding a graduate degree, master or legal equivalent in Medicine, Basic Health Sciences, Dentistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology or similar.
- Students holding a 1st cycle graduate degree structured according to the principles stipulated in the Bologna process, obtained in a country that has signed the Bologna Declaration.
- Students holding a foreign graduate degree, which meets the standards, as set by the relevant scientific body of the higher education school in which they want to enrol.
- Students with an educational, scientific or professional curriculum, attesting to their capacity to complete this study cycle, as set by the relevant scientific body of the higher education school in which they want to enrol.
- Candidates should check the admission requirements available on this site, in addition to the information provided here.

Professional Goals
This Master course aims at creating differentiated and high-quality scientific training opportunities that prepare students to conduct research activities in Biomedicine.
This course is based on the existence of training associated with the high scientific merit of research in Biomedicine and aims to create conditions for the training of scientists that might develop or take part in research activities in the different branches of specialisation of this course.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
The Master Course in Biomedical Research aims to create conditions for a differentiated and high merit scientific training that prepares students for Research in Biomedicine. To achieve this, MIB is founded on excellence of
teaching associated to excellence in biomedical scientific research, providing an environment that allows the training and preparation of scientists capable of developing or participating in research activities in the different
specialisation branches of the course. MIB includes scientific fields for which the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra is renowned, and corresponds to identified research groups whose competence has been well demonstrated by their scientific production and the supervision of post-graduate training activities. MIB aims to attract highly motivated and qualified students who successfully concluded their 1st cycle training in fields that are adequate for the pursuit of a technical or scientific career that involves a strong Biomedical Research component.
For this, students will complete CUs in structural and transversal areas, which will form the basis for the development of a solid and successful research work, in addition to CUs in specific fields, according to the specialization branch chosen by the student. Thus, MIB is a course that is mainly focused on the acquisition of skills to perform research, and students have the liberty to mold their scientific and curricular path, according to their objectives, having the opportunity to select the advanced courses that they wish to attend, from offers existent not only within FMUC and other institutions belonging to UC, but also other higher education or research institutions. To guarantee that these objectives are met, the MIB coordenator has frequent meetings with students and teachers.
