The instruction of Portuguese as a Non-Native Language has been promoted by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (FLUC) for nearly 100 years. Since 1925, FLUC has been training foreign students in the Portuguese language and culture, thus providing them not only with linguistic skills, but also with knowledge of Portugal and the Portuguese identity.
In line with its longstanding tradition, which has been internationally recognised by UNESCO, FLUC wishes to continue promoting Portuguese as a language of science and culture on a global scale and as an element of cohesion among Portuguese-speaking countries. Through its Portuguese as a Foreign Language/Second Language courses, the University of Coimbra asserts itself as a global university and a centre of shared knowledge for the entire world.
